Welcome Back Mavericks!

It is hard to believe that September has arrived!  I hope that each of you enjoyed some quality time with your families and managed to fit in some rest and relaxation too.

Things have been coming together at school as we prepare for the BEST year yet at GMPS!  Our Touchstone and Mascot are ready to go, our classrooms are set up and the floors are shining!  This year we are starting with such energy and sense of renewal that we can hardly wait to get going!

This year we will be continuing to encourage and teach problem solving, good character and resilency.  We are still talking about having a Growth Mindset and making sure that we embrace the word ‘YET’ – instead of “I don’t know how”, we say “I don’t know how YET!”. One of the songs that you may be hearing around the school, which supports our Growth Mindset, is ‘Try Everything’, by Shakira from the soundtrack for the movie Zootopia.  You can listen to it by clicking TRY EVERYTHING.  Remember, if at first you don’t succeed – try again!

FIRST DAY – We have had some construction done on the building over the summer that has not been completely finished.  As a result, the back doors and stairwell will remain closed for the next few weeks.  While this entrance is closed, we are asking that students in grades 4-8 line up by the rock circle at the edge of the tarmac and wait until they are led into the school by the staff on duty.   Students in the Portable will line up outside the Portable.  As always, if it is raining we have free entry into the classrooms where staff are on duty.

At 8:45 on Tuesday we will be outside to greet each one of you.  Please find your teacher and line up.  We will head in with our classes at 9:00 a.m.  Junior Kindergarten students will be joining us at school at 1:50.  If it is raining, we will meet in the Gymnasium.

REMINDERS – Lunch this year is 12:50-1:50 and Dismissal is at 3:30.

KEEPING IN TOUCH – This year we will continue to maintain a high level of communication with families through our Blog, Twitter (@GermanMillsPS), Cash Online, student agendas, and our website.  Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher or the Principal if you need assistance or have any questions or concerns.  We are very excited to be working with you and your child!

Enjoy your long weekend!
