Photo Retake Day Tomorrow

Hello GMPS Families,

Tomorrow is Photo Retake day, for any students who were absent/unhappy with the first round of photos. Edge Imaging will be at school tomorrow from 9:00-11:00 a.m.

Please notify your child’s teacher (by agenda or note) if you wish to take advantage of this retake opportunity.

Thank you.

From your School Council

Happy Halloween!  Thank you for your ongoing support – and for the incredible turn out again at last weeks meeting.

Today the donation drive is closing!  If you haven’t made your donation, please consider donating today.  If you donate on-line you will automatically receive a tax receipt.  If you send cash or cheque to school, your tax receipt will be issued in the coming months.  We have a long way still to go!

Thursday is Family Movie Night.  There is no charge to attend.  Concessions will be sold at the event or pizza can be pre-ordered on Cash Online.  Pizza will not be sold at the event.

See you Thursday!

Reminders and Updates

Snow has arrived!  For some of us the white stuff was exciting…for the rest of us it was frightening!!  Please remember to send your children with appropriate clothing to be outdoors and make sure your items are labelled!  Our lost and found is growing rapidly.

Tomorrow is a PA Day and there is NO SCHOOL for your children.  Staff will be engaged in reviewing and renewing our school plan for continuous improvement and student achievement.  This plan will be shared at our next council meeting on November 21st.

Monday is Halloween – your children may choose to celebrate in their costumes, but masks and replica weapons are not permitted.  Please do not send food or snacks to share as there are too many allergies and we are working hard to be a healthy school!  In addition, when you send Halloween treats in lunches next week (and the weeks that follow) please ensure there are none with nut products!  Be visable and SAFE when out trick or treating and check your child’s treats carefully when you get home.

Next Thursday is our first FAMILY MOVIE night.  Please see Cash Online if you are pre-ordering pizza for dinner.  Zootopia and Goosebumps will be playing.  All students must be accompanied by an adult for the duration of the evening – it is not a drop off event.

Yesterday was our first recognition assembly for Character Matters  and our Touchstone. It was a wonderful opportunity to come together to celebrate and to kick off our monthly focus on Courage.  Our Touchstone says ‘We take risks and can unlock the future!’  Talk to your kids about ways that they demonstrate courage at home and at school and share ways that you demonstrate courage.

Please consider our Playground Donation Drive, it will be closing on Monday night at midnight.

Have a wonderful weekend!

From our Nutritionist

Last week Seanna Thomas came to share her knowledge with us as we talked about healthy snacks and eating for our kids. If you missed her presentation, she has shared the attached information.

In addition, anyone that signs up for her newsletter on her site (www.nutritionnaire.com) BEFORE November 15th can win two free boxes of the U-Be-Livin-Smart muffins that are peanut and tree nut free. Contact:  seanna@nutritionnaire.com

Playground Update

From your School Council:

As October comes to a close, we will be wrapping up our Donation Drive.  If you are still interested in supporting our Playground – we need $25000 more to reach our goal.  Donations are still being accepted until the end of the month.  You can donate on cash online or by sending a cheque or cash to the school.

Thank you to everyone for your support.  We are very excited!

Character Matters at GMPS

This week we have our FIRST Character Matters & Touchstone recognition assembly.

In addition, this week is Community Character Week across York Region. At German Mills, we pride ourselves on having good character. This week, the theme is “Random Acts of Character”. We will be learning about how people show good character all week in our classrooms. When a teacher spots a student showing good character throughout the day, we will honour them by sharing their ‘random act of character’ over the announcements. Thank-you for your ongoing support!
