The 8th Annual Congee Cup Floor Hockey Tournament has come and gone. The past six weeks we have witnessed one of the greatest hockey tournaments in GMPS history! In the end, it was team ‘Guam.com’ being team ‘Dusters’ in a thrilling 4-3 overtime victory. Congratulations to Guam.com on capturing the Congee Cup. The tournament MVP award was unanimously decided and congratulations to Aiden, this years Most Valuable Player. Special thank you to all of the student volunteers who made up the Congee Cup Committee and Officiating Crew. Your help and support each and every game made this the best run tournament in Congee Cup history. Thank you also to Mr. Bendahan, Mr. Chur, Mr. Lieberman, and Mr. Soloway who gave countless hours to run this event. Over $800 was raised from the games to support our 2016-2017 Graduation. WAY TO GO!
The wonderful thing about being a part of a community is that we are able to support and encourage one another. One of the ways your School Council has decided to support our community is to offer family night events, like Movie Nights and BBQs, and they have been a tremendous hit! We look forward to more events in 2017.
Another way they support the community is by offering Parent Workshops to further our learning and support us in our journey as parents. So far we have had a Nutritionist come and speak about healthy and balanced nutrition for our kids, and a Child Psychologist and Professor of Education come to speak about Reading and how best to support our children in Language. They have provided some great learning!
In 2017 we have a few more Parent Workshops being offered. The first one is on January 24th, titled ‘Putting Worries in a Box’. More information will be coming over the next few weeks. Everyone is welcome and childcare will be available for pre-registrants. The cost of all of these workshops is covered by the Parents Reaching Out Grant, so there is no cost to our community. Come on out and bring a friend or two!
Johnsview Village has a series of parent workshops being offered that they have extended an invite to. Please see the attached flyer for thier upcoming workshops.save-the-date-parent-presentations
Hooray! Our spirit wear has arrived! We will be sending it home tomorrow with students so PLEASE make sure you immediately label it with your childs’ name. Just in time for our Maverick Day on Friday!!!!
Hello GMPS Families,
Our School Council would like to remind you that if you are interested in registering your child(ren) for the Guitar, Chess or Karate lunch time programs that will be offered at GMPS beginning in the New Year, please return the forms by tomorrow (Thursday), along with your payment.

Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as we navigate the interruptions yesterday to our concert and cookie dough. A Blog post on this will follow!
A glimpse in our classes:
The Grade 8 students have been learning all about water systems. They have tracked and analyzed their water consumption. They have learned how local water is processed and managed and they are now constructing their own water filtration devices, which will be tested and evaluated.
The Wonderful Ones designed and built kites that they used wind energy to fly.
CONGEE CUP: Game 1 of the Congee Cup final kicked off today with the Dusters taking on Team Guam. The crowd was electric and the energy in the gym was off the charts. It was a high scoring affair and both teams showed determination and passion. In the end, it was Guam winning 7-6 over the Dusters to take 1 game lead in the series. Game 2 is set for Monday at lunch recess. Good luck to both teams!
Water Colour Art:
We were so disappointed to have to cancel our event yesterday. The kids have worked so hard preparing for the event, and although they had a dress rehearsal – it was still a disappointment to not have the evening show. Please mark your calendars as we are going to attempt to try it again and welcome you to see the concert on THURSDAY JANUARY 12th at 6:30 p.m.
Please come and pick up your orders today before 5:30 p.m. Our parent volunteers are eagerly waiting to greet you. We really appreciate the support you showed GMPS with your orders and hope that you enjoy some freshly baked cookies over the weekend!
