Our Cookie Dough didn’t make it today! It will be arriving tomorrow and will be available for pick up from about 1:00-5:30 p.m.
Bookfair – due to the cancellation of the Winter Concert, some parents who had planned to visit the bookfair with their children after the concert are unable to do so. The bookfair will therefore be kept open on Friday through morning recess. Parents may send money tomorrow, along with instructions, and our teacher and library helpers will do our best to help children find and purchase what they want.
Spirit Wear will be here next week!
Our buses are currently running 20 minutes behind. Students are inside waiting for them to arrive.
ATTENTION FAMILIES and FRIENDS of GMPS!
To ensure the safety of students, staff and families, school permits have been cancelled by the Board due to inclement weather. Tonight’s holiday concert will be rescheduled to a later date. As soon as we have details, we will share them with you.

We have had a great week here at GMPS! All of our Mavericks have been hard at work and play. There are a number of things to share and reminders to be given, so please see below for a look back and the week and a look ahead to next week.
The Hour of Code – All Primary students and a number of our older students participated in the Hour of Code. We spent Thursday morning learning about coding and trying out our skills. The kids were all engaged and had a great time. It was a learning experience that we are looking forward to repeating.
Concert Band – Our Intermediate Concert Band participated in a concert at Thornlea Secondary School on Wednesday night and did a fantastic job. It was a great opportunity to practice and showcase what we have been working on. The band is looking forward to other presentations and to participating in Music Alive!

Kindergarten Registration to Commence January 20, 2017
Kindergarten registration will commence on January 20, 2017 for the 2017-18 school year. Registration forms are available on YRDSB’s website: www.yrdsb.ca. Children who turn four or five years old during 2017, live within the school boundary and whose parents are public school tax supporters will be eligible to register for kindergarten. A kindergarten information session for parents is being planned for this spring. For more information please visit the YRDSB website or contact your local school.
French Immersion Information Sessions and Registrations
Information sessions for the French Immersion (FI) program will take place at French Immersion schools on January 19, 2017 at 7 p.m. Please visit YRDSB’s website in January 2017 (http://www.yrdsb.ca/Programs/fi/Pages/Program-Locations.aspx) to find the FI program location for your elementary school location. FI registration will begin January 20, 2017. Parents or guardians of Senior Kindergarten students entering Grade 1 in 2017, and wishing to enrol in the FI Program, can visit or call the school office and request an Office Index Card – short version. The Office Index Card must be signed by the principal of the home school. Parents or guardians then take this form, along with one piece of identification showing their address to the designated FI program location to register between January 20 and February 10, 2017. This eliminates the need to provide duplicate enrollment information or to pre-register.
YRDSB’s FI Accommodation Plan provides long-term consistency and equity of access to all students in York Region and will enable YRDSB to continue to offer the FI program to all who wish to enrol. The FI program will be offered in Dual Track or Single Track settings, in a variety of configurations. In order to meet community needs and optimize available space in our schools, a community’s Grade 1-8 FI program may be provided over more than one school during the course of a student’s FI education. This will allow flexibility in addressing community needs and the opportunity to use existing space in schools. More information is available on the Board’s website: www.yrdsb.ca. Please note: Some of the FI accommodation plans will require facility modifications or the development of new schools and will require short-term transition plans that might include overflow while we work toward the long-term vision. Overflow refers to situations in which the Board directs students to attend a school other than their community school or optional program for a specific period of time, as defined in Policy #108.
Congratulations to the German Mills Concert Band!Last evening, the German Mills Concert band took part in Thornlea Secondary School’s music night. It was a wonderful event full of music, singing and fun, and our students did a fantastic job! The Bayview Fairways band was also there, as well as the many wonderful ensembles from Thornlea. We heard guitars, string ensembles, stage bands, and soloists! It was nice to see former students as well. Thank you to all of the parents and family members who came out to support the band. We look forward to seeing you next Thursday night for our Holiday Celebration!
