A Week in Review

Thank you to everyone for your patience and understanding as we navigate the interruptions yesterday to our concert and cookie dough.  A Blog post on this will follow!

A glimpse in our classes:

The Grade 8 students have been learning all about water systems. They have tracked and analyzed their water consumption. They have learned how local water is processed and managed and they are now constructing their own water filtration devices, which will be tested and evaluated.Displaying File_001.jpeg

The Wonderful Ones designed and built kites that they used wind energy to fly.

CONGEE CUP: Game 1 of the Congee Cup final kicked off today with the Dusters taking on Team Guam.  The crowd was electric and the energy in the gym was off the charts.   It was a high scoring affair and both teams showed determination and passion.  In the end, it was Guam winning 7-6 over the Dusters to take 1 game lead in the series. Game 2 is set for Monday at lunch recess.  Good luck to both teams!

Holiday Concert

We were so disappointed to have to cancel our event yesterday.  The kids have worked so hard preparing for the event, and although they had a dress rehearsal – it was still a disappointment to not have the evening show.  Please mark your calendars as we are going to attempt to try it again and welcome you to see the concert on THURSDAY JANUARY 12th at 6:30 p.m.

Please come and pick up your orders today before 5:30 p.m.  Our parent volunteers are eagerly waiting to greet you.  We really appreciate the support you showed GMPS with your orders and hope that you enjoy some freshly baked cookies over the weekend!

Cookies and Books

Our Cookie Dough didn’t make it today!  It will be arriving tomorrow and will be available for pick up from about 1:00-5:30 p.m.

Bookfair – due to the cancellation of the Winter Concert, some parents who had planned to visit the bookfair with their children after the concert are unable to do so. The bookfair will therefore be kept open on Friday through morning recess.  Parents may send money tomorrow, along with instructions, and our teacher and library helpers will do our best to help children find and purchase what they want.

Spirit Wear will be here next week!

TONIGHT is cancelled!

To ensure the safety of students, staff and families, school permits have been cancelled by the Board due to inclement weather. Tonight’s holiday concert will be rescheduled to a later date. As soon as we have details, we will share them with you.

BUSES – Buses will run after school. Please check http://www.schoolbuscity.com tomorrow morning to ensure they are running tomorrow morning.

COOKIE DOUGH – has not yet arrived, but when it arrives it will be available for pick up until 4:30 p.m. and then will be available tomorrow all day for pick-up (details to be blogged later)

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Week in Review

We have had a great week here at GMPS!  All of our Mavericks have been hard at work and play.  There are a number of things to share and reminders to be given, so please see below for a look back and the week and a look ahead to next week.

The Hour of Code – All Primary students and a number of our older students participated in the Hour of Code.  We spent Thursday morning learning about coding and trying out our skills.  The kids were all engaged and had a great time.  It was a learning experience that we are looking forward to repeating.

Concert Band – Our Intermediate Concert Band participated in a concert at Thornlea Secondary School on Wednesday night and did a fantastic job.  It was a great opportunity to practice and showcase what we have been working on.  The band is looking forward to other presentations and to participating in Music Alive!

Holiday Heroes – We continue to collect non-perishable foods and new toys for those who need our support this holiday season.

Hot Lunch and Milk Orders – Pizza, sub and milk orders are currently open on Cash Online.  If you would like to order any of these items for January to March, please log on to Cash Online as the deadline is fast approaching.

Grade 8’s to Thornlea – We had an amazing morning at Thornlea today.  Students experienced a math class and also spent time in the ACAM program classes doing drama, art and production.  Thank you to Thornlea for hosting us!

  • Bookfair in the library all week
  • Cookie Dough and QSP orders for pick-up on Thursday Dec 15th
  • School Concert on December 15th at 6:30 p.m. – admission cost is an item of non-perishable food or a new toy
  • Fundraising Update – We have raised almost $2200 towards our Fundraising Plan and $3000 towards the Playground this year.  Thank you for your on-going support.
  • Spirit Wear – will hopefully arrive the end of the week – stay tuned!
