Mind-blowing Math!

The Gauss math contest is an annual opportunity for grade 7 and 8 students to challenge their math problem solving skills.  Half of our intermediate division (and one grade 6!) took on this challenge and GMPS teachers are thrilled at the passion and commitment to mathematics that we have seen over the past week! (in addition to what we see everyday!) Students will receive their individual scores shortly…

YES!  Get ready to make your minds TIC night on May 30th!

Last Wednesday, May 9th, thirteen students from GMPS had the opportunity to attend the Youth-Edtech Summit (YES) at Keswick High School.  In its third year, the summit provides student leaders a chance to share knowledge and engage in learning with other like-minded peers from across the school board.  This year, GMPS students in grades 4-8 were able to create a display according to an area of passion in the STEAM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Math) and enjoy hearing about the passions of others.  Members of our Lego Robotics championship team held two successful “spotlight” sessions that had students of all ages engaging in programming EV3 robots around an incredible maze (constructed by our custodian Steve!).

In the afternoon, our students were able to select two sessions of interest with the hope that they would bring their new knowledge back to school to inspire others.  And our leaders are ready to go! We are thrilled to announce that all junior and intermediate students will have a chance to engage in STEAM learning at our inaugural German Mills Public School night of Technology, Innovation, and Creativity (TIC)!  Student leaders from a variety of grades will host STEAM themed activities that will encourage students to build their problem solving, creativity, collaboration and innovation skills!

Stay tuned for more information as we start our preparations….

Family Matters

Last night we had a lot of fun with our Aussie X leaders. We played footie outside and practiced our skills. The Aussie X team also gave us a question to reflect on: “How did it feel to spend time together as a family, being active and trying something new?” Responses were about feeling good because of the physical activity, seeing strengths that may not otherwise have been obvious, being present and feeling happy- to name a few.

Get outside. Be active. Be present.

We are so excited to be welcoming families to our Aussie X Family sports night tonight!!! 6-7:30pm.

Here are some of our kids taking a minute to reflect and be mindful…

School Spirit Day!

Hello Mavericks!

This Thursday, we are going to show our awesome German Mills school spirit by wearing our colour house team colours! Show your Maverick spirit this Thursday at school and in the evening for our Aussie X family night!  Your children know the colour house they are in and we will remind them again.  If you don’t have that colour – you can wear Mavericks gear or our school colours – blue and grey.

We are proud to be Mavericks!

German Mills History

As we begin to pack up a few things in preparation for our summer renovations, we have unearthed some ‘history’ of German Mills Public School, which had the official opening in 1975.  Have a look if you are interested.  Take note that we are holding true to the beginnings as we continue to encourage parents to get involved as they are able (Family Sports Night this Thursday:) ) AND that we value the school as the hub of the community.  GO MAVERICKS!
