A Message from the Library

“Today, the German Mills students in the Grade 1 and Grade 2/3 classes voted for their favourite Blue Spruce book in our school library. Where Oliver Fits was chosen as a favourite story by most of the students. Where Oliver Fits is a lovely story about the importance of feeling like you belong. Here at German Mills, we all belong, and we know we are all truly very special. Go Mavs!”

Board Website Update

Help the Board improve their websites; please read a message from the board below.

We are refreshing the www.yrdsb.ca website and our school websites, and invite you to share your feedback through a brief survey. The information from the surveys will help us ensure that the content, navigation and layout meet the needs of students, families and community members.

Our websites provide important information about our school and Board, resources to help your child succeed, school programs and more.

The two-part survey is anonymous, confidential and voluntary, and should take about 10-15 minutes to complete. If you have any questions please contact communications@yrdsb.ca.

The survey will be available until June 12 at bit.ly/YRDSBwebsurvey.

Internal and External Forces

The Grade 7’s from Mr. Lieberman’s and Ms. Khairi’s classes have been learning about internal and external forces, their interactions with structures and their structural components. They were tasked to build a bridge at least 30 cm long and 10 cm high with a maximum of 150 Popsicle sticks. They were only allowed to use glue. With limited resources and construction parameters, their bridges still had to support at least 15 science textbooks. Some exceeded structural expectations!

Come and See the Talent at German Mills!

We invite you to attend our annual spring concert, which will take place on Thursday, May 9th at 6:30pm. It will be a wonderful evening of Music, Dance and Drama. There will be a dress rehearsal for the students after lunch on the same day.  Students between Grades 5 and 8 will be performing and we hope that you can attend. If your child’s class is performing, and he or she cannot attend the evening performance, please let your child’s teacher know as soon as possible. You will be notified if there are any special dress requirements.  As a general rule, performers should never wear clothing with large logos, lettering or pictures. See you on the 9th!

Music Alive

Our Junior Band will be performing at the Music Alive Festival tomorrow! Students should remember to bring their music, instrument, and band attire. We perform at the YCDSB Centre for the Performing Arts between 9:30 and 11:30 am tomorrow!

The Junior Band will also be performing, along with the Senior Band, at next week’s school concert on May 9th.

Our Senior band finished with a Silver Plus rating at Music Alive! It was an excellent performance, and we can’t wait for the community to see them live and in person next week!

Congratulations to the Senior Band, and good luck to the Junior Band tomorrow!

Go Mavs!
